The definitive Green & Sustainable Finance event of the year

The Green & Sustainable Finance (half-day) Forum, in partnership with Guernsey Green Finance, will take place on Wednesday 19 June 2019 in Guernsey. The Channel Islands’ flagship Green and Sustainable Finance event will explore the role of the finance sector in shifting capital to assets with low carbon intensities.

Topics will range from reviewing how global green finance solutions can contribute to climate change mitigation to examining the detail of the verification and certification processes of Guernsey green products.

This contemporary event will enable delegates to hear from a range of local and off-island industry experts in the field of green and sustainable finance. The event will welcome keynote speaker Stephen Nolan, Managing Director of the United Nations’ Finance Centres for Sustainability Global Network.

Stephen Nolan

Managing Director at the United Nations Finance Centres for Sustainability Network

Stephen Nolan is the Managing Director of the UN Environment convened Financial Centres for Sustainability (FC4S) global network. With a membership base covering Europe, the Gulf, Africa, Asia and North America, the objective of the network is to exchange experience and take common action on shared priorities to accelerate the rapid global growth of green and sustainable finance across the world’s financial centres, supported by strengthened international connectivity, and a framework for common approaches.

A senior business professional who has led and delivered initiatives from start-up to scale across both public and private spheres internationally, Stephen is also a member of the international Advisory Panel member of the Climate Bonds Initiative and the Advisory Board of the International Energy Research Centre.

Stephen is a co-founder of Sustainable Nation Ireland, a non-governmental body working together with Ireland’s public and private sectors to advance the sustainable finance agenda within Ireland. Stephen currently sits on the boards of Haven, an Irish based charity focused on Haiti and the Children’s Cancer Fund. He is a former Irish Government ICT Special Advisor and Advisor to UN Secretary General Annan’s Task Force on ICT.

Stuart Chandler

Head of Business Development, BPP CI

Stuart is Head of Business Development for BPP. He started his career at PWC, and has 10 years’ experience in the fund industry, including fund accounting and financial reporting work at Kleinwort Benson and Northern Trust. Most recently, he was Assistant Vice President of Client Service at State Street.

Stuart is a published author, having written a career guide on becoming an accountant, as well as a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants, Fellow of the Chartered Management Institute and Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. He also chairs the Guernsey Society of Chartered and Certified Accountant’s (GSCCA) Training and Courses Sub-committee and sits on their Executive Committee.

Andy Sloan

Dr Andy Sloan

Deputy Chief Executive, Strategy at Guernsey Finance & Chair of Guernsey Green Finance

Andy developed the Guernsey Green Finance initiative which he also leads. His role at Guernsey Finance is to oversee jurisdiction wide financial services strategy. He joined Guernsey Finance on August 1st 2018, following a six month secondment from the GFSC where he was a Policy Director. He is a member of States’ advisory groups on international tax policy & Brexit and is a member of the The City UK’s IRSG’s and Corporation of London’s standing committee on regulatory coherence. Andy has a PhD in Macroeconomics and is a member of the Institute of Directors and Institute of Risk. Andy also worked in corporate and financial PR in London in the late 90s and early 00s.

Stuart Phillips

Executive Director at BDO Guernsey

Stuart has gained over 25 years’ experience in audit and assurance in a number of jurisdictions, including the UK, USA and Russia. He joined BDO in 2013 through the integration of the Guernsey PKF practice.

Stuart leads the audits for a diverse portfolio of clients, ranging from local private companies to listed groups with complex international structures. He also provides a range of other assurance services, including internal audit, control assurance and compliance reporting.

Stuart also leads BDO’s Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) assurance team in Guernsey, helping organisations to set a strategy for incorporating sustainability reporting into their financial statements, as well as providing ESG prospectus certification and assurance support using ISAE 3000.

Mark Oliphant

Head of Communications at The International Stock Exchange Group

Mark is Head of Communications at the Exchange. His role involves the formulation of marketing and communications strategy and overseeing its implementation, as well as liaison with introducers of business, particularly in the Channel Islands, the Isle of Man and the UK.

He previously spent nearly a decade at Guernsey Finance, promoting the island’s finance industry to a global audience.

A former journalist, Mark has a Diploma in Public Relations and is a Chartered Practitioner of the Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR) and is immediate past Chairman of the Channel Islands Group of the CIPR. Mark also sits on the Marketing Committee of the Guernsey Investment Fund Association.

He has a First Class Degree in Modern History and Politics from Sheffield University where he also attained a Masters in Historical Research.

Dr Desné Masie

Senior Associate – Financial Services at Global Counsel

Dr Desné Masie is an economist and thought leader in international finance, specialising in regulation, innovation and policy. She has held senior roles in finance, media and academia in the UK and South Africa. She is a senior associate in financial services at Global Counsel, and a fellow in international political economy at the Wits School of Governance. Dr Masie was the director of the Investec Investment Institute, the corporate relationship manager of the Royal African Society, a pensions and investment consultant at the Alexander Forbes Group and the capital markets editor of the Financial Mail. She continues to write for a wide range of media, and has contributed to the Guardian, International Business Times, Fintech Futures and Forbes. She was named in Innovate Finance’s 2017 Women in Fintech Powerlist and is a Chevening Scholar. Dr Masie holds an MSc in Finance & Financial Law from the University of London (SOAS) and a PhD in Finance from Edinburgh.

Wayne works with a broad range of regulated entities and investment funds on fundraising, transaction and investment structuring, commercial contracts and mergers and acquisitions. As one of the leaders of Collas Crill's risk and regulatory team he also regularly advises businesses on regulatory compliance including money-laundering issues, listing rules requirements, competition law, data protection and Guernsey financial services regulation more generally.

Wayne has also built considerable expertise in assisting company boards and activist shareholders in relation to contentious general meetings and associated issues arising out of investor actions.

A regular speaker at seminars and conferences in relation to company law, regulatory and fund matters, Wayne is well known for his down-to-earth plain speaking approach to explaining complex legal and regulatory issues.

David undertakes a wide range of corporate transactions with a particular experience in the launch of investment funds.

As well as private funds, David has advised funds that are listed on the LSE, AIM, Euronext and TISE.

Current clients include both listed and private renewable energy investment funds across the wind, solar and water sectors.

Assistant Director at the Guernsey Financial Services Commission  

Dawn is an Assistant Director within the Investment, Fiduciary & Pension Division of the GFSC and has over 15 years’ experience in the investment industry. In addition to her supervisory role Dawn was integral in developing the Guernsey Green Fund Rules. Dawn is also a member of the Green Finance Strategy Group.
