Chris Usher

Global Head of AML and Financial Crime Education at BPP Professional Education

Chris has over 20 years’ experience in international financial services, working both in the UK and offshore, for major financial institutions such as Barclays Wealth and Santander.

Formerly an International Investment Manager he advised both individuals and corporate entities on complex investment scenarios. He now specialises in delivering training in investment management, taxation and regulatory matters in international finance centres around the world.

Chris is a specialist chairman of a number of high-profile events, including conferences such as the Annual Compliance & Economic Crime Symposium and the International Taxation Conference. As an expert in the financial crime risks posed to international offshore financial centres, Chris was invited to speak at the Association of Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialists (ACAMS) conference on the topic of ‘Understanding the Criminal Vulnerabilities of Offshore Products and Services’.

Barrister at Law at Overseas Chambers of Peter Harris

Peter Harris is an English Barrister of 40 years’ call, initially a French corporate tax lawyer with what has since become Renault SA. With a European law and taxation background, he has practised in France, England and in Jersey. He was the first French Honorary Consul to the Island after the departure of the Diplomatic Consul in 1994.

Tom Wherry

Lead Policy Adviser: Financial Services and Brexit at the Government of Jersey

Tom learnt his trade at Linklaters LLP where he specialised in EU law, financial regulation and capital markets in London, Milan and Tokyo. He arrived at the Government of Jersey via an environmental NGO in New Zealand and one of the UN's international criminal courts in The Hague. Now he heads up the Government's approach to Brexit and financial services, as well as advising on numerous other projects, notably Jersey's approach to economic substance.

Deputy CEO at Jersey Finance Limited

Amy joined Jersey Finance as Strategic Projects Manager in December 2011, becoming Chief Operating Officer in January 2014. In September 2017 Amy was appointed Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Jersey Finance.

Amy was born and educated in Jersey and subsequently went on to study at Durham University where she graduated with an honours degree in Natural Sciences. Before Jersey Finance Amy was a Tax Manager with PwC in the Channel Islands. While working within the tax team Amy was admitted to the Chartered Institute of Taxation as a Chartered Tax Advisor. Amy initially qualified as a Chartered Accountant within PwC’s Assurance team working on audits of a number of banks, financial institutions and public sector bodies.

Ben Robins

Partner at Mourant

Ben has been a partner at Mourant for over sixteen years and is currently Head of the firm's global funds practice.

Ben has extensive experience in investment funds, real estate investment and structured finance. Ben's practice focuses on the formation, operation and financing of private equity, venture capital and debt funds, as well as real estate funds and investment structures. Ben regularly advises fund promoters, managers, investors, directors and service providers across a variety of asset classes.

As a former Chairman, Ben remains an active committee member of the Jersey Funds Association (JFA). Ben is a member of the BVCA's Channel Islands committee and a member of AREF's Public Affairs committee. In addition to this Ben has been a long standing active participant in a number of Jersey finance industry working groups, including Jersey's AIFMD working group. In 2018 Ben was actively involved in the JFA and Jersey Finance Limited's engagement with UK HMRC and HMT in relation to the framing of UK CGT exemptions for non-resident collective investment schemes.

Ben was the only top-ranked investment funds lawyer in the Chamber and Partners Global 2018 Guide for Jersey, he is ranked as a leading lawyer by IFLR 1000, and has been identified by 'Who's Who Legal' 2018 as being among the world's leading private funds lawyers. Ben was recently named as one of six Mourant partners featured in the Legal 500's 'Legal Hall of Fame UK' lawyers list, which highlights individuals who have received constant praise by their clients for continued excellence over the last 10 years.
