Overview

2020 has been a turbulent time for the financial services sector. With Brexit casting uncertainty in the financial services sector, the global pandemic causing recessions and unprecedented change in workforce operations, and the continued digital revolution, marketeers are being asked to adapt to the continually changing environment in which they operate in order that their organisations can continually succeed in meeting their marketing objectives.

This event aims to explore the effect which changing factors have had on marketers within financial services organisations. Our speakers will share their view and experiences of working during these times discussing how they have overcome adversity and risen to these challenges and adapted to the changing environment.

This event will feature presentations from leading marketing experts from financial services and will be chaired by Steve Cartwright, the Chairman of the Chartered Institute of Marketing, Jersey Branch.

Andrew Marshall

Vice Chairman at Cognito

Cognito is a global communications and marketing firm specialising in financial services, professional services and fintech.

Andrew has a twenty-five year track record in communications, largely in financial and professional services, with clients including exchanges and trading venues, asset and wealth managers, investment banks, retail financial services, insurance and fintechs.

He specialises in reputation management and message development, and has run award-winning integrated international campaigns to target hard-to-reach audiences. He continues to pitch stories to journalists.

Andrew started his career in banking at Schroders and Deutsche Bank, and speaks German. An experienced media trainer and speechwriter, he also spent 24 years as a leading councillor in a central London borough.

Jacob Howard

Chair at CIM Financial Services Group

Jacob Howard FCIM is Vice President, Marketing at Deutsche Bank’s Corporate Bank, and the Chair of the Chartered Institute of Marketing’s (CIM) Financial Services group.

Jacob’s marketing role at Deutsche Bank is to promote Deutsche Bank’s global cash management and FX solutions targeting multinational corporations and financial institutions.
Through his role at the CIM, Jacob is keen to encourage the enrichment of the marketing profession in financial services and runs an annual CIM Financial Services Marketing Leaders’ Summit each year in November. He also previously curated the Culture stream at Sibos, the world’s largest banking event, which covered topics such as financial inclusion, user experience, diversity, and the future of mobile banking.


Jacob has worked in senior marketing roles for a number of other leading financial services institutions – from stock exchanges (NYSE, Euronext), to a global banking co-operative (SWIFT), and an agency-broker/fintech (Liquidnet) – and other sectors including engineering/energy (AMEC plc), publishing (Key Note) and on a government campaign (DTI/CBI).


He is married with two children, lives in London but is originally from the Isle of Wight.

Steve Cartwright

Chairman, Jersey Branch of the Chartered Institute of Marketing

Steve is a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Marketing and the current Chairman of the Jersey branch. Starting his career in banking Steve qualified as a financial adviser with the Securities Institute before studying for his marketing qualifications.

Steve has held department head roles in banking, investment advisory and as director of product marketing and strategy with global responsibility at State Street. Steve headed up global marketing functions at Crestbridge, Mourant, Lloyds Private Banking and recently acting head of marketing at Bedell Cristin.

Steve chairs the Jersey Funds Association Marketing and PR Sub-Committee and sits on the Princes Trust Channel Islands Steering Group.
