Overview

Know your Customer (KYC) & Client Due Diligence (CDD) are at the heart of financial crime risk management within the financial services industry. Regulators are increasingly focused on the quality and appropriateness of KYC & CDD carried out both at client onboarding and review stage. After many years of legislative pressure, financial services businesses are still wrestling with the challenges presented by complex business models and relationships. This half-day forum will examine key issues faced by those working within this field.

This year’s KYC forum will look at developments in the KYC/CDD function, including technological advances, post-Brexit changes and also likely future developments in the industry.

As always, the event aims to combine key updates and practical top tips. Hearing from industry experts, delegates will have a greater understanding of the impact of geopolitical changes in the landscape, specifically in relation to KYC as well as increasing their knowledge around effective transaction monitoring. Finally, delegates will have a greater appreciation of how best to future-proof their CDD function.

Chris has over 20 years’ experience in international financial services, working both in the UK and offshore, for major financial institutions such as Barclays Wealth and Santander.

Formerly an International Investment Manager he advised both individuals and corporate entities on complex investment scenarios. He now specialises in delivering training in investment management, taxation and regulatory matters in international finance centres around the world.

Chris is a specialist chairman of a number of high-profile events, including conferences such as the Annual Compliance & Economic Crime Symposium and the International Taxation Conference. As an expert in the financial crime risks posed to international offshore financial centres, Chris was invited to speak at the Association of Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialists (ACAMS) conference on the topic of ‘Understanding the Criminal Vulnerabilities of Offshore Products and Services’.

Since retiring from Law Enforcement, Neil has been leading initiatives to collect and develop intelligence on the issue of Modern Slavery / Human Trafficking globally. Neil was formerly the Director of the STOP THE TRAFFIK Centre for Intelligence - Led Prevention (CfILP). Neil has a long history in Law Enforcement with New Scotland Yard, Regional and National Crime Squads, National Criminal Intelligence Service and Serious Organised Crime Agency (SOCA) in leading major international programmes to counter organised crime. This included as the UK Law Enforcement Attaché to North America, based at the British Embassy, Washington DC. In SOCA, he led the Human Intelligence Department in collecting information globally on organised crime and has on the ground operational experience in Afghanistan, Colombia and in West Africa, including Nigeria as well as leading the UK and Europol initiatives to undermine Cocaine Trafficking to the EU and UK from production areas in the Americas. He also served as COO at UK Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre (CEOP).

Head of UK Financial Security at Credit Agricole – Corporate and Investment Bank, London

With over 20 years of experience, Liliya has worked across the financial crime space in different roles and capacity and across different platforms. She has managed teams, due diligence projects in challenging environments, and led major investigations and litigation support cases. In the late 1990s she joined Bulgaria’s Financial Intelligence Unit where she headed the International Contacts and Legal Coordination department. Her experience also includes Transparency International in Berlin, several London-based investigative consultancy firms and the Royal Bank of Canada in London. In 2016 she joined Commerzbank London where she managed the AML Advisory and EDD Team until her appointment as head of Transactions Monitoring and Investigations/UK FIU and deputy MLRO. At the end of 2020 she joined Credit Agricole – Corporate and Investment Bank as Head of UK Financial Security. She holds a doctorate in AML policies from Tilburg University in the Netherlands and gives lectures at the University of Manchester. A speaker at industry events, Liliya has delivered presentations on behalf of Stop the Traffik, a London-based non-profit organisation that fights human trafficking and slavery.

With more than 16 years’ experience driving business and regulatory initiatives in the United States, EMEA, and with the United Nations, Rayissa shares the mission of IDnow to make the connected world a safer place.

Passionate about the area where business and government meet, Rayissa has represented companies up to Fortune 125 totalling hundreds of millions of dollars in benefit for employers and clients. In addition to her work in FinTech, she has covered and led projects in the telecommunications, defense, airlines, and international real estate investment sectors. Select employers and clients include: Boeing, Lufthansa Airlines, Polimeks Holding, and the United Nations.

Rayissa’s success is attributable to quickly understanding stakeholder need and direction coupled with a solid skillset in how to connect with relevant figures in short order. This holds her well as she operates in any one of her four spoken languages.

Rayissa started her career at the Internatioanl Telecommunicaitons Union in Geneva, and hold a Master of Science in Science and Technology Policy from the University of Sussex (SPRU program) in Brighton, England.

A regulatory lawyer by background, Tom was previously a partner at Stephen Platt & Associates LLP (SPA), a firm known for the rigour of its investigative work on behalf of financial regulators worldwide. With the continued strong growth of KYC Global, Tom moved in 2020 to a full-time role on the regtech side, bringing with him over a decade of experience of the most acute compliance challenges faced by regulated financial services business. He previously worked in M&A at Rothschild.

He has advised and acted for regulators, tier one banks, challengers, investment funds, trust companies, stock exchanges, fund administrators, lenders, asset managers and professional bodies.

Ed is a director in the Compliance and Regulatory Consulting business in Duff & Phelps’ Jersey office. He has extensive technical and practical knowledge of trust, company, insolvency, regulatory and criminal law which he brings to bear on regulatory assignments involving governance, risk management and AML/CFT arrangements. He regularly acts as a Reporting Professional, conducts regulatory and risk due diligence reviews for buyers and sellers in the fiduciary and fund sectors and as liquidator in Jersey insolvencies. A qualified Chartered Accountant he has worked at Big 4 firms and, more recently, he spent eight years at one of the Channel Island’s leading dispute resolution law firms providing regulatory and other litigation-related professional services.
