The 2021 Family Office & Private Wealth Management (half-day) Forum is the ideal event for those working in, or providing, corporate services to Family Offices. Dr Stuart Gibson, PhD MSc DipM FCIM FCMI, is an expert and leading authority on global private wealth, having interviewed hundreds of private clients (HNWs, entrepreneurs and family offices) and hundreds of private wealth professionals in private banking, wealth management, family office, fiduciary, investment management, insurance, legal and professional service sectors. His business consulting firm, Gibson Strategy, provides research, education and strategic consulting services to wealth management professionals and private clients, globally. Dr Gibson (58) has spent over 36 years working and collaborating with global financial organisations. He holds a PhD in Private Banking and Wealth Management and an MSc and Postgraduate Diploma in Marketing. He is a Fellow of The Chartered Institute of Marketing (FCIM) and a Fellow of the Chartered Management Institute (FCMI).

Robert has extensive experience of acting for and advising clients in high-value commercial matters in particular involving breach of trust claims, directors’ breach of duty claims, trust disclosure and other administrative proceedings in relation to trusts, enforcement of foreign orders in relation to trusts, actions to remove trustees and protectors, unfair prejudice claims, freezing injunctions and insolvency procedures. He has acted for beneficiaries, shareholders and other individuals in disputes with larger institutions such as trust companies, banks and other lenders.

Ian Rumens joined Intertrust in 2009 and leads the Jersey Private Wealth Service offering as well as acting as a Global Executive Director for Private Wealth. He is a STEP-qualified non-practising English solicitor. Ian has extensive experience assisting individuals, families, private family offices and family-owned businesses to achieve their ultimate aims. He works with global families, many based in the UK, Asia, Europe and the Americas, as well as the Middle East. Acting as a trustee with a legal background, Ian’s unique combination of skills is focused on applying a holistic solutions-based approach to preserving and enhancing wealth harmoniously within a well-regulated and governed environment. He is a ‘hands on’ director overseeing the operation of bespoke governance structures and transactions across multi–asset investment portfolios including real estate, company shares, operating companies, specialist investment and JV/club deals.

Catherine is head of Family Office Services at BDO. She advises families and family offices around family office establishment, family governance and philanthropy. She believes that when families understand their values and the purpose of their wealth, they can build on much stronger foundations and, by aligning their structures and activities with this, create sustainable long-term solutions.

She has worked with family offices for over 15 years, gaining a unique perspective from the combination of roles she has held. This has included heading a private office and sitting on the board of three international trust companies (Salamanca Group) and coordinating wealth structuring with investment management (Barclays Wealth). This all built on her training as a private client lawyer at Allen & Overy.

Recognized as a thought-leader in the family office industry, Catherine has previously been named as one of EPrivate Client’s 50 Most Influential and is one of Family Capital’s Top 100 Family Influencers 2020. She has written, spoken and been interviewed on topics ranging from next generation planning to impact and sustainable investing.

Catherine has an MA in Jurisprudence from Oxford University, is a Trust & Estates Practitioner (STEP) and Certificated Family Business Adviser

Stuart originally joined BPP CI as a tutor in 2011 and, after 4 years as a senior tutor and ACCA Programme Manager, moved to State Street in order to gain more experience in Guernsey’s fund industry. Whilst there he was Assistant Vice President in the Client Services team, responsible for a range of listed and unlisted private equity funds. He re-joined BPP in 2017 when a senior position became available. Stuart is a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants and an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

Stuart’s experience in the fund industry is broad, spanning 10 years in fund accounting, financial reporting, operational and regulatory compliance, board management, corporate secretarial and administration. This experience is invaluable when it comes to designing and delivering courses in the Professional Development arena across areas such as fund accounting, fund structuring and asset classes, emerging regulation, Anti Money Laundering and compliance. Stuart also delivers numerous courses for the ACCA, Chartered Governance Institute and ACA qualifications, with a focus on strategy, law and audit.
