Stuart Chandler

Head of Business Development at BPP CI

Stuart originally joined BPP CI as a tutor in 2011 and, after 4 years as a senior tutor and ACCA Programme Manager, moved to State Street in order to gain more experience in Guernsey’s fund industry. Whilst there he was Assistant Vice President in the Client Services team, responsible for a range of listed and unlisted private equity funds. He re-joined BPP in 2017 when a senior position became available. Stuart is a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants and an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

Stuart’s experience in the fund industry is broad, spanning 10 years in fund accounting, financial reporting, operational and regulatory compliance, board management, corporate secretarial and administration. This experience is invaluable when it comes to designing and delivering courses in the Professional Development arena across areas such as fund accounting, fund structuring and asset classes, emerging regulation, Anti Money Laundering and compliance. Stuart also delivers numerous courses for the ACCA, Chartered Governance Institute and ACA qualifications, with a focus on strategy, law and audit.

Maria is one of the Isle of Man’s most highly regarded, knowledgeable and experienced immigration lawyers. She qualified as a Manx advocate in 2003 and pursued a successful career as a corporate lawyer before being appointed Immigration Legal Officer for the IOM Government’s Immigration Service and Attorney General’s Chambers.

Maria joined BridsonHalsall Advocates in 2018 and has successfully assisted many multinational corporations, entrepreneurs, HNWIs and families relocate to the Island. Maria specialises in providing decision makers with clear and practical advice on corporate structuring, investment and business visas to make the establishment of a new business in the Island seamless and straightforward.

Deputy Chief Executive at Department for Enterprise

Carl came to the Isle of Man in 1996 as Finance Director for a major local bank. In 2001 he joined the Isle of Man Government working for a decade in the Treasury leading the budgetary process. In 2013 he took up a role as the Government’s Economic Advisor, picking up various corporate policy responsibilities when this moved to the Cabinet Office. In 2018 when he moved into his current position within the Department for Enterprise.

Donna Shorto

Managing Director at PraxisIFM Corporate Services (UK) Ltd

Donna was educated in Guernsey before studying law at Exeter University, obtaining an honours degree before returning to the island on completion of her studies in 2009. She joined Credit Suisse Trust as a trust administrator in 2009, taking responsibility for a diverse portfolio of complex trust and company structures and specialising in the Far East and real estate/private equity structures. Donna continued her professional studies and qualified as a full member of STEP in 2011, and then joined PraxisIFM as a Trust Manager in 2015, managing a team that administers a wide range of structures. She relocated to the UK in late 2017 to head up the UK Trust and corporate offering in London, where she holds the position of Managing Director and is responsible for business development. Awarded the Citywealth Future Leaders Editor’s Choice award 2019 and became a judge at the Citywealth Future Leaders Awards 2020.
