Stuart Chandler

Head of Business Development at BPP CI

Stuart originally joined BPP CI as a tutor in 2011 and, after 4 years as a senior tutor and ACCA Programme Manager, moved to State Street in order to gain more experience in Guernsey’s fund industry. Whilst there he was Assistant Vice President in the Client Services team, responsible for a range of listed and unlisted private equity funds. He re-joined BPP in 2017 when a senior position became available. Stuart is a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants and an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

Stuart’s experience in the fund industry is broad, spanning 10 years in fund accounting, financial reporting, operational and regulatory compliance, board management, corporate secretarial and administration. This experience is invaluable when it comes to designing and delivering courses in the Professional Development arena across areas such as fund accounting, fund structuring and asset classes, emerging regulation, Anti Money Laundering and compliance. Stuart also delivers numerous courses for the ACCA, Chartered Governance Institute and ACA qualifications, with a focus on strategy, law and audit.

Kees Jager

Head of Fund Services at Intertrust Group

Kees is the Head of Fund Services for Intertrust in Guernsey, with over 20 years of finance industry experience. Prior to Kees joining Intertrust in 2015 he was Vice President within the fund administration business of Northern Trust Guernsey for 15 years. He led the administration team and held board positions on Northern Trust’s largest local private equity relationship, with over €25bn of committed capital. He also worked with Schroder Ventures on their real estate and private equity funds. Kees has held board positions on various debt and credit solution funds providing over €2.3bn of capital to businesses. Kees currently holds Board positions across infrastructure, real estate and private equity fund clients, that invest globally.

Jo Reeve

Director of International Relations and Constitutional Affairs at the States of Guernsey

Jo started work for the government of Guernsey in 1998 as a graduate trainee with a focus on business development policy. Since 2008 he has worked on constitutional matters and international relations. In 2014 he was called to the Bar of England and Wales. He has been the director of the External Relations team since 2016.

Since the UK EU referendum in 2016, Jo has led the delivery of the Guernsey government’s response to the UK exit from the EU, the negotiations on the new economic relationship – the Trade and Cooperation Agreement – as well as on matters of other EU policy, such as tax cooperation.

Rupert’s career in financial services has taken him globally, beginning in London, and on to Hong Kong, Asia, South Africa and Switzerland, before returning to Guernsey.

His background is in private banking and trust and corporate services, where he has held a number of senior management roles in global companies. As well as an MBA from the University of Cape Town, Rupert holds a law degree, and is a member of STEP, CISI and the Institute of Directors.

Emma Martins

Data Protection Commissioner for the Bailiwick of Guernsey

Emma’s academic background is in social science and her career started in public service and working as a civilian manager for the States of Jersey Police in the 1990s. A role which had data protection duties as part of its remit which was her introduction to this field of work. She was employed at the Data Protection Office as Deputy Registrar in 2001. When the Commissioner retired in 2005, Emma was successful in her application for the role. In 2012 the Channel Islands joined forces to establish a pan-Island data protection presence and Emma now manages regulatory oversight of both Jersey and the Bailiwick of Guernsey. More recently this role has also extended to oversight of the recently implemented Freedom of Information (Jersey) Law 2011 in Jersey creating the role of Information Commissioner.

Wayne Atkinson

Group Partner at Collas Crill

Wayne works with a broad range of regulated entities and investment funds on fundraising, transaction and investment structuring, commercial contracts and mergers and acquisitions. As one of the leaders of Collas Crill's risk and regulatory team he also regularly advises businesses on regulatory compliance including money-laundering issues, listing rules requirements, competition law, data protection and Guernsey financial services regulation more generally.

Wayne has also built considerable expertise in assisting company boards and activist shareholders in relation to contentious general meetings and associated issues arising out of investor actions.

A regular speaker at seminars and conferences in relation to company law, regulatory and fund matters, Wayne is well known for his down-to-earth plain speaking approach to explaining complex legal and regulatory issues.

Jo Huxtable

Partner at Deloitte LLP

Jo leads Deloitte’s tax practice across the Channel Islands and has worked in tax for around 27 years mainly within professional practice but also within industry. She is a qualified Chartered Accountant and Chartered Tax Advisor and has experience in both corporate tax and VAT. She has considerable experience with a focus on corporate and international tax for a wide range of financial services clients, including investment funds and private equity houses. Projects range from local Guernsey and Jersey tax compliance and advice, VAT advisory as well as advice on international tax principles such as residence, permanent establishment, withholding tax and the impact of double tax treaties. Her experience also covers transaction work on disposals, acquisitions and re-organisations.

Daniel Johnson

Director at Deloitte LLP

Daniel is a Director in Deloitte’s Financial Services VAT team, based in London. Since the UK voted to leave the EU in 2016, he has been the lead for indirect tax implications for UK financial services businesses, liaising with industry groups, HMT, and HMRC. Outside of Brexit, he advises on VAT for all areas of financial services, with a focus on Capital Markets and Investment Management clients. He regularly works with clients who already have operations in the Channel Islands and those looking to establish there, particularly in light of the recent Ocean Finance litigation. Current projects include implementing a new Jersey-based management structure for a Europe-wide Credit Fund, the automation of a global investment bank’s UK VAT compliance procedures in advance of Making Tax Digital, and helping UK and European industry groups to respond and react to proposed changes to the VAT treatment of Financial Services in both the UK and EU in the future.
