Andrew Horbury

Head of Blockchain & Cryptocurrency at BPP

Andrew Horbury is Head of Blockchain and Cryptocurrency at BPP Professional Education.

Andrew provides training & consulting to a variety of both financial and non-financial services firms on FinTech, with a core focus on Blockchain and Virtual Currency and the AML/CFT risks presented by them.

Andrew is the Founder of Blackfort Digital Currency Management, a specialist cryptocurrency and blockchain firm and is a Special Advisor on AML/CFT Risk Management for Blockchain Jersey.

Andrew has previously spent time in London, Jersey and Luxembourg working in Wealth and Investment Management for leading financial institutions such as UBS and Blackrock.

Educated at Victoria College in Jersey, Andrew obtained a diploma in law from the University of London and studied International Financial Services (BSc) at Jersey International Business School. Andrew holds an Advanced Certificate in Managing Virtual Currency Financial Crime Risks as well as a number of qualifications awarded by the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment.

Chairperson of Qadre and Spokesperson for the British Blockchain Association

Laura, Chairperson of Qadre and Spokesperson for the British Blockchain Association, is a leading entrepreneur in the field of blockchain technology and a trailblazer for women in fintech. She has co-founded three successful blockchain ventures and is currently developing Qadre into a global technology leader – working with UK parliament, industry, and regulators alike to drive policy and cultural changes to technology. Laura is a regular speaker in domestic and international governments, regulators, and NGOs, promoting technology for good. Laura has an extensive background in finance and began her career at HSBC across a variety of areas, including Leveraged Finance, Marketing, and Corporate Banking. Laura is also on the Board of Tech UK.

Professor Wim Schoutens

Professor at the University of Leuven (KU Leuven) and founding partner of RiskConcile

Wim Schoutens (Leuven, Belgium) is a professor in financial engineering at the University of Leuven, Belgium. He holds a Ph.D. in Mathematics.

Further, he is a founding partner of RiskConcile, a fast growing (and profitable) fintech company focussing on machine learning, quantitative advisory and cloud-based solutions for the financial industry.

He is an independent expert advisor to the European Commission and author of several books on financial engineering.

He is Managing Editor of Quantitative Finance and of the International Journal of Theoretical and Applied Finance. Further, he is series editor of the book series "Financial Engineering Explained" for Palgrave Macmillan.

Finally, he is an expert in blockchain technology and is a crypto-currency trading and risk-management professional.

Kurt Roosen

Kurt Roosen

Chief Executive Officer of the Manx ICT Association (MICTA)

With a 30 year IT career starting from graduating with a BCS(Hons) in Computer Science and then learning his trade at CAP in the UK, Kurt has been the CEO and driving force behind the Manx ICT Association (MICTA) for the past four years, working in conjunction with Government to support and develop the ICT Sector on the Island during a period of significant growth. Previous to that Kurt led a 6 year IT transformation for the Duncan Lawrie Private Banking Group, in a similar fashion to that of Abbey National Offshore which is what brought him to the Island back in 1998. Between these Kurt managed to develop a Telecoms company built around technology which Kurt developed a joint patent on and now is used as prior art by organisations such as Cisco. Kurt is also a Fellow, an elected Council Member and past Council Chairman and Trustee Board Member at the BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT. In the BCS he also sits on their Society Board and is a judge at the UK IT Industry Awards. Kurt is also a Freeman of the Worshipful Company of Information Technologists in the City of London.

Steve leads the Advisory practice at PwC Isle of Man with specialists working in the areas of data privacy and cyber security, regulatory compliance, controls assurance, internal audit, forensic investigation, insolvency and transaction services.

With over 20 years' onshore and offshore audit and advisory experience Steve works closely with all clients to consider the impact of fast-paced changes in industry, alongside applying – and complying with – current and upcoming regulation, covering areas such as data privacy, data governance and assurance, regulatory compliance and remediation, and risk management.

A member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of England and Wales, Steve sits on the Chamber of Commerce’s ICT sub-committee, and leads PwC’s close working relationship with the Manx ICT Association.
