Jo French LLM (Chairperson)

Financial Crime Prevention Education Training and Development Manager at BPP

Jo has worked in offshore financial services since 1988 and is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators. Jo previously ran the ICSA programme at BPP Professional Education where her students won many of the international prizes. Jo has also taught on CMI and ACCA.

In addition she is a senior lecturer for the International Compliance Association delivering on their full range of AML and compliance qualifications. As well as exam training and involvement on JIBS’s extensive public programme, Jo specialises in developing bespoke, technical in-house CPD programmes covering a range of AML, compliance and governance issues. Clients include the British Bankers' Association, the Association of Corporate Service Providers in the Isle of Man and the Guernsey Training Agency.

A committed educationalist, Jo obtained a First Class Law Degree in 2005 (LLB), facilitated through the Open University. In 2015 she was awarded a Merit in a Masters in Law (LLM) from Queen Mary University of London specialising in financial services law. She is passionate about the delivery of accessible and innovative training courses.

Director at Grata Opus Limited and Former Specialist Operations Detective, Financial Investigator and Trainer for the National Terrorist Financial Investigation Unit (NTFIU)

Ross is a former Specialist Operations Detective, Financial Investigator and Trainer from the National Terrorist Financial Investigation Unit (NTFIU), which is part of the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS), Counter Terrorism Command (CTC).

Ross joined the MPS in 2002, becoming a Detective in 2004. In 2007, he became an Accredited FI focusing on conducting money laundering investigations and stripping the assets of criminals in West London.

In 2009, Ross moved to New Scotland Yard, joining the NTFIU. Ross worked as part of a highly specialised team, providing financial intelligence and investigatory support to UK and International Counter Terrorism operations, working closely with government and industry partners.

Between 2013-15, Ross became the NTFIU Liaison Officer to the Ministry of Defence, travelling to Afghanistan to provide specialist CFT support to coalition efforts against the Taliban.

Ross now offers a CFT/AML consultancy service to the international private and public sectors, incorporating bespoke training and investigatory services.

Detective Constable Louise Jackson

Detective Constable – JFCU Intelligence at the States of Jersey Police

Detective Constable Louise Jackson has been appointed to the Joint Financial Crime Unit (JFCU) Intelligence wing, since October 2014. Since being in the JFCU Louise has obtained the ICA AML Diploma and attended the National Terrorist Financial Intelligence Unit (NTFIU) Officer’s training course in the UK.

Louise joined the States of Jersey Police in 2004. Having spent four years in uniformed operations, in 2008 Louise moved to the Public Protection Unit, as a child protection Officer until 2014 when she moved to JFCU.

Louise has held roles such as Firearms Officer, Sexual Offences Liaison Officer, and is currently a Police Assistant Welfare Adviser. Louise is assisting Acting Detective Inspector Lawrence Courtness in the Terrorist Financing element of-Jersey's National Risk Assessment.

Acting Detective Inspector JFCU Operations at States of Jersey Police

Detective Inspector Lawrence Courtness was appointed in January 2018 as Head of the Financial Investigation Unit (Operations) based within the Joint Financial Crime Unit (JFCU). Lawrence has been a Police Officer since 2001 and has spent time in uniformed operations, corporate services and crime departments. From 2008–2012 Lawrence was the Detective Sergeant responsible for JFCU Operations during which time he obtained an ICA AML diploma with distinction.

Lawrence is the Force lead for Hostage and Crisis Negotiators and Mental Health, a Tactical Firearms Commander and the President of the States of Jersey Police Association. He is the JFCU’s representative at CARIN and is the Chair for the Terrorist Financing element of Jersey’s National Risk Assessment which commenced in 2018.
